Some says it’s Chemistry, others say it’s Physics. Most agree, it’s Maths. Ludwig Boltzmann was a statistician who noted that a system is not homogeneous. Just like all the students in a particular year group aren’t exactly the same no two particles in a beaker are either. He used graphs to show how much energy these particles might have and did loads of experiments to see how changing the conditions affected them. This badge goes nicely with our Maxwell Suite. Grab them all!
- Draw a Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution curve using probability as your y-axis and show how changing the temperature will affect the shape of the curve.
- Ensure the area under the curve is constant and explain why you must do this
- Explain how increasing temperature and adding a catalyst can increase the rate of reaction by adapting and labeling your diagram.
