To unlock this achievement, you must submit a piece of creative writing of at least 500 words in length that utilizes setting to create meaning.

Form: Creative Writing

• The writing is in extended form.
• The writing is focused on description, rather than narrative (though a narrative structure could be deployed).
• The writing employs figurative language effects to emphasize the significance of time and/or place.
• The writing uses grammatical effects to enhance the reader’s understanding of time and/or place.
• The writer deliberately selects tense and viewpoint to enhance the reader’s understanding of time and/or place.

Logic and Structure:

• There will be a clear emphasis on the description of setting within the writing.
• A clear mood will be created through the writer’s description of setting.
• The tone of the writing will be developed throughout the description of setting.
• Where a character/characters are present, they will be crafted to ensure that they communicate an intended atmosphere within the piece.
• The description of setting will utilize the use of symbols to generate meaning.
• Paragraphs will be used to delineate shifts in mood and/or atmosphere.
• Paragraphs will be used to communicate shifts in time or location.

Accuracy:

• Spelling is accurate in most words with few lapses, except in uncommon language.
• Most sentence structures are employed accurately.
• Shifts in tense and viewpoint are controlled and deliberate.
• Punctuation features are used consistently and correctly and in some instances are used for creative effect.
